Confirm your email address

Password and Microsoft accounts confirm their email with a 6-digit code. Why we ask, what waits until you do, and what to do if the code doesn't arrive.

When you create a LetterScript account with an email address and a password, we email that address a 6-digit code. Typing it back proves the address is yours. If you sign in with Microsoft, you confirm your address the same way, once.

Why we ask

Anyone can type any email address into a sign-up form. Confirming the address stops someone who signed up with your address from pointing your work at a calendar, CRM, phone or AI assistant of their choosing, or from emailing people as if they were you. Until an account is confirmed, it can't set up anything that sends its data out of LetterScript.

Confirm when you sign up

Right after you choose Create account, LetterScript opens Confirm your email address and asks for the code we just sent. Enter the six digits and choose Confirm email.

You can start working straight away — choose I'll do this later to skip it for now. Until you confirm, a bar across the top of LetterScript says Confirm your email address. Choose Confirm email on it whenever you're ready, and we'll take the code there — or choose Email me a code there if you don't have one.

What waits until you confirm

Everything to do with your own transactions works as normal: uploading documents, deadlines, the checklist, the transaction assistant, sharing and email. One small difference: invitations you send to collaborators show your name but not your email address (see Share a transaction). These wait until you confirm:

  • Calendar sync with Google or Outlook (see Sync deadlines to Google or Outlook Calendar)
  • Calendly (see Meetings & Calendly)
  • Follow Up Boss
  • Phone notifications, including deadline alerts. In the LetterScript mobile app, turning on Deadline alerts on a new phone asks you to confirm on the web first. The mobile app doesn't take the code itself, so confirm on the web, then turn Deadline alerts on again.
  • AI assistants like Claude or ChatGPT (see Connect an AI assistant). If you start connecting one before you've confirmed, the approval screen asks for the code first, then carries on where you left off.

If you choose Connect on one of these before confirming, LetterScript asks for the code instead. Settings → Integrations also says so at the top of the page.

About the code

  • It expires after 15 minutes and works once. Asking for a new one cancels the old one.
  • You can ask for another code after a minute, up to 5 codes a day, counting the one sent at sign-up.
  • After 10 wrong codes in a day, confirming and new codes are paused for up to 24 hours.
  • The email contains no links. We never ask you to click a link to confirm your address. If you get a message that asks you to, it isn't from us.
  • Never share the code. LetterScript will never ask you for it.

If the code doesn't arrive

  1. Check your spam or junk folder. The email is from LetterScript, with the subject Confirm your email for LetterScript.
  2. Check the address. The banner and the confirm screen both show the address we're sending to.
  3. Wait a minute, then choose Send a new code.

The address is wrong? Sign out and create a new account with the right address.

You didn't create the account? Someone may have typed your address by mistake. Without the code, that account can't connect anything to your address. To take it over, choose Forgot password? on the sign-in page — resetting the password also confirms the address. (If many wrong reset codes were tried on the account that day, the reset still works but doesn't confirm it: after you sign in, choose Confirm email on the bar.)

Google, Apple and Microsoft sign-in

If you sign in with Google or Apple, there's nothing to do. They confirm your address for us, and you won't see the banner.

If you sign in with Microsoft, you'll see the Confirm your email address bar until you confirm once. Microsoft doesn't guarantee that the sign-in name it gives us is an email address you control, so we email that address a code like we do for password accounts. Choose Confirm email on the bar, then enter the code.
